Born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Dr. Gary Powell moved to Western Canada upon graduating from the University of Manitoba’s dental school in 1996. A seasoned clinician with over two decades of experience, Gary currently practices as Principal Dentist at Carrington Dental Centre in West Kelowna, British Columbia.
Described by his peers as a kind and caring clinician who takes the time to make patients feel comfortable in his chair, Gary finds putting patients at ease to be a very gratifying experience. “The best part of my day is when I can help someone overcome their dental anxiety to improve their oral health, which further contributes to their enhanced mental and physical health. This is done by listening, explaining in a way that they understand, and providing an environment conducive to a positive patient experience,” he says. “I am proud to provide a safe and caring atmosphere that makes our patients feel like they are a part of our extended dental family.”
Gary is a proud mentor to his three associates, a relationship he believes affords opportunities for mutual learning. “They help me learn new things everyday and I am able to guide them through some of the difficult parts of dentistry that come up in practice, that only experience can help with.”
When asked what advice he has for other dentists looking to grow, Gary offers, “Listen to your patients and team members. Treat them as you would treat your loved ones, and you will be successful. This is a marathon, not a sprint. Success will come to those who show they care.”
